Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. ( Jn 14:1).
God is good!
Today I want to talk about the need to prepare for the Father's house, taking our cue from the farewell message of Jesus to the disciples: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places…And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be."
One time, I listened to a TED talk in which the speaker mentioned one of the speeches of J.F. Kennedy, describing how America would build a spacecraft and visit space with such precision admitting that some of the materials that would be used to build the spacecraft had not even been discovered. Yet today such an idea is part of annals of history.
If the visionary words of leaders like Kennedy in America’s ability to travel to space can hold true, should we not believe the beautiful words of Jesus that he's going to prepare a place for us, and he will come back to take us to be where he is?
There is an intense desire and hope in all of us, Christians to be in heaven someday, a place Jesus calls the Father's house. But how may we get there? According to Jesus, unflinching faith in him and the Father is what is required. Remember that faith can act as the telescope to see that future house and the ladder to climb to the place.
The promise didn't only inspire faith and hope in the disciples, but it also taught them to understand while they knew something terrible was going to happen to their master, he had everything under control. The faith of the disciples would constitute the reason Jesus would prepare a place for them.
The Christian life is a constant preparation for the house of God. Jesus continues to prepare our hearts as we are on the road of life. He becomes our consolation and hope anytime our hearts are troubled, and we're overwhelmed by events happening around us. But he is also preparing a place where we will be in union with God forever. This, you should believe and be prepared for it.
Prayer blessings: Father, thank you for thinking about us and keeping us in your will. We believe in your plans to save us through Jesus and the promise of heaven we have from him. Amen.
