Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life.(Jn 6:45-48).
Living without Christ is always costly; he is the cornerstone that guarantees perfect, meaningful life. In today's gospel, Jesus repeats the underlying truth about his coming into the world; whoever comes to him receives life.
He is the life-giving water to the thirsty; he tells the Samaritan woman, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is asking for a drink, you will ask him, and he will give you, life-given water. He also says, "Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life."
These teachings should authenticate in us the baptismal mental model about Christ, that if we honestly want to live, then we must make Christ the cornerstone of all we do.
The happy, successful, joyful, peaceful, and above all, eternal life we desire can only be guaranteed by him. Let us follow St. Paul's life credo: "live is Christ and to die is again."
Prayer blessings: Father, come to us in the power of your victory and plant in our hearts the seeds of your loving kindness to heal them of any wounds and divisions. Amen.
