Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.(Matt 6:8)
God is good, all the time.
In today's gospel, the disciples came to ask Jesus to help them to learn how to pray, and he taught them the "Our Father," which most of us get to know how to pray from childhood.
Jesus underscored the significance of praying and its urgent place in fruitful discipleship. He did not object to the special request. There were times the Lord dismissed the disciples’ demands because they were either borne out of selfishness, like the “right” and “left” hand demand of the sons of Zebedee ( Cf. Matt 6:20), or lack of faith, like the “send the people away” request ( Cf. Mark 6:36), or lack of love towards others, like the “fire from heaven” request of the sons of Zebedee (Cf. Lk 9:54).
In this request, he spontaneously taught them how to pray, and they also continued to learn how to pray by observing him pray regularly.
There is a simple, sweet prayer, which I also believe to be the basis of all our prayers; we can all use it all the time. "Jesus, I trust in You."
