...Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered; they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.... (Mk 6:53-56).
God is good, all the time.
Friends, here we are with another blessed day. Let’s follow the example of Jesus today and engage in small things to make a difference in people’s life.
Michael Wayne Hunter was on death row when he met Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Mother Teresa was visiting the San Quentin Prison in California where Hunter was awaiting his execution. By God's incredible act of mercy, he escaped the death penalty to live and tell his electrifying experience with the "tiny," frail woman.
"Incredible vitality and warmth came from her wizened, piercing eye," he said. Mother Teresa was giving religious medals to those "dead" men, her smile exuding a profound sense of hope for those “dead” men like the hopeful smiles of a mother at her innocent baby who has just been delivered.
Hunter admitted that he wouldn’t have walked voluntarily from his cell to see even the president or the pope, because he could care less about them. But when he stood before Mother Teresa and looked at her eyes, all he kept saying was, "Thank you, Mother Teresa."
I think that it was precisely what happened to all the sick and dying people in the villages, towns, and countryside that Jesus visited as they " begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed." The incredible vitality and warmth received from a sincere human touch.
Thinking of doing something for others in imitation of Jesus? Follow his example. Go ahead and do that small thing. Don't wait for some other time. Just do it with love.
Prayer blessing: God and created of all things, let me do everything today with your inspiration and help so that they may reach completion in you. Amen.
