And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”(Mt 28:8-15)
God is good!
The Gospel for this festive Monday carries the announcement about the gospel of life. The joy and hope of the women following the assurance received from the angel that Jesus was alive reached its completion as Jesus appeared to them. Jesus greeted the women, who embraced him so that the new life Jesus brought from his resurrection would be infused into their own lives and receive the assurance that true, there is life in Jesus. And it is this life in Jesus that strips death of any final word or claim on us.
The angel’s instruction to the women to “go and tell” the disciples is here echoed by the Lord, “Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” The final word belongs to Christ, and therefore, life has the final word.
In all the events that afflict humanity, sometimes whole communities, and families, the invitation at this Easter is for all of us to confirm the value of life; we are to proclaim life and give life. Easter means life. There is life! Therefore, let’s work in solidarity with God to eliminate the culture of death and enhance life on earth for all.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your son Jesus to die to save us. Help me to accept his life-giving saving act and become united with him always. Amen
