He has made everything appropriate to its time, and has put the timeless into their hearts, without man's ever discovering, from beginning to end, the work which God has done. -Eccl.3:11.
Friends, God is good, all the time.
We are creatures of habits and inclined to express our delight at the appearance of what fits our taste and expectation impeccably and complain when we experience discomfort. Our emotions, passions, desires, wishes and expectations continually alter and make it challenging even for ourselves to figure out what we really want or care about. Thus, drawing our attention to the antitheses of time and life events, Ecclesiastes reminds us that we are not in control of anything. The seasons, warm days, cold days, snow, wisdom, wealth, success, happiness, etc., are not in our hands. Our efforts cannot guarantee them because they are distributed at the will of God.
So, God must figure out what is appropriate and beneficial for the common good of all creation. We may not find much rains, snow, heat and cold pleasant and complain about them, yet, in a broader view, God understands that they are needed for some other people or places.
Consequently, there are some beautiful lessons from the book of Ecclesiastes that we can learn form and practice them accordingly: First, we should be contented with the order God has set and placed all things in, and not disquiet ourselves about the things that are not in our power to modify. Second, we should recognize and make use of the best possibilities and opportunities available to us to attain the gifts of God when they appear and not deny ourselves of them. Some people make the mistake and never recognize opportunities God bring them in life to their regret and bitterness. Third, we should be comfortable with what we have at the present moment- our time, health, resources, faith, and relationships with families and friends- and make appropriate and reasonable use of them. Four, we should be thankful to God at all times, in season and out of season, on rainy days and sunny days, cold days and warm days, snow days and clear days, and in abundance and scarcity without complaining about what is not in our power to alter. Only seek to improve what God provides and make it more appropriate for yourself.
Remember that God must take a lot into account in providence; as the bible says, "He has made everything appropriate to its time, and has put the timeless into their hearts, without man's ever discovering, from beginning to end, the work which God has done.
Prayer blessings: Father, you order all creation to reflect your purpose and desire. Still our minds on you as they inquire and search. Keep us alive and alert to the gifts you give us so we may receive them with gratitude of hearts. Amen.
