What is man that you are mindful of him, or the son of man that you care for him? You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor, subjecting all things under his feet.
God is good, all the time.
Friends, there is a beautiful evangelization prayer part of which reads, "Pour out your Spirit so that I might be strengthened to go forth and witness to the Gospel in my everyday life through my words and actions. In moments of hesitation, remind me: If not me, then who will proclaim the Gospel? If not now, then when will the Gospel be proclaimed? If not the truth of the Gospel, then what shall I proclaim?”
Today, we should all see ourselves as having been sent out to proclaim the Gospel. What message are we carrying to bring to those who need to hear us? I suggest two things. First, tell people how beautiful and unique they are to God. King David was the first to realize how special and beautiful we are in the eyes of God. He tells us plainly that God made us little less than angels and crowned us with glory and honor. For David, whoever is created in God’s image and likeness has the potential of living as angels do.
We should remember that people do what they hear and see. When we can see in people the beauty of God and the good, they can become and tell them how beautiful they are, they will smile and live accordingly. And why is this possible? It is because of Christ.
The first reading says this about Jesus Christ: He who consecrates and those who are being consecrated all have one origin. Therefore, he is not ashamed to call them "brothers," saying: I will proclaim your name to my brethren, amid the assembly, I will praise you. Because God's son didn't feel ashamed to call me his brother, I should not be ashamed of others, even those I disagree with or are not like me. Didn't Christ live to give us an example to follow? Jesus came in the flesh to sanctify the flesh and raise it to a rank of honor as children of God.
Second, Jesus didn't feel ashamed to restore a man possessed by an evil spirit, nor did he subject him to violent means to free him. Out of respect for the possessed man, Jesus tells the unclean Spirit to be mute and quietly come out of the man.
Christ should be the measure our capacity to become better and the pattern of our true nature. What he is, we can become. In him, we should look forward and see the positive in others and help them to shine with glory as God's children like a bright morning sun shining over snow. It gives out the beauty and purity of the snow.
Prayer blessings: Lord, in your light, help me to see the light by which I should guide my life by it.
