Social Justice Commission

Regular meeting time: 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM
 

The Social Justice Commission responds to the social problems within the parish, to the local community, and to the needs of the broader world.

  

Mission:

  • respond to the social problems within the parish, the local community, and to the needs of the broader world.

 

Function:

  • educate parishioners to realize that all are called to care for the needs of the universal church and the world; such as issues relating to justice, peace, hunger, and the sanctity of life.

  • coordinate parish service programs such as those listed below under Stewardship.

  • challenge the institutions of our society to change, when necessary, in order that the dignity and rights of each person may be preserved.

  • inform parishioners of the social justice teachings of the Church.

 

Stewardship:

  • Operation Rice Bowl / Rice Tasting

  • Food Bank Collection

  • Poverty Awareness

  • Christian Foundation for the Children and the Aging

  • Catholic Charities Disaster Relief

  • Respect Life activities

  • 40 Days for Life

  • Fair Trade Products

  • Posting the Iowa Catholic Conference Newsletters for Legislative Concerns

  • Cornellian Birthright Advertisement

 

Meetings:

  • 1st Tuesday of the month, 7:00 PM at St John’s (August through June)

 

What we need:

  • High School Students who have been confirmed, College Students, and any Adults willing to contribute their time and talents.
